Hi, my name is Eva! My family loves to go on long road trips. We have traveled all across the U.S.A. visiting many national landmarks during our vacations. This past summer we were on the road for over a month and one of my favorite places we visited was Niagara Falls. It has been on my family’s bucket list for a while and the Falls did not disappoint! There was so much natural beauty, excitement and history there. Visiting Niagara Falls is an experience I will never forget. Let me tell you all about this amazing place!
Niagara Falls is located on the borders of Ontario, Canada and New York, U.S.A.. It is made up of three waterfalls: the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. The Horseshoe Falls are the largest and the Bridal Veil Falls are the smallest. The Niagara River drains water from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario.
Fun facts about Niagara Falls:
-It is one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World.
-It was created over 10,000 years ago by glacier activity.
-It is the fastest moving waterfall on the planet. The 3 waterfalls together produce the highest flow rate of any waterfall on earth!
-It is the oldest state park in the U.S.A., established in 1885 -Maid of the Mist boat tours is the oldest tourist attraction in the U.S.A. (made its first voyage in 1846). We took this thrilling boat ride and I got soaked!
-It is the largest producer of energy in New York state.
-A 63 year old teacher became the first person to go over the falls in 1901 when she traveled down them in a barrel. But, it is illegal (and not very smart) to go over the Falls!
-In 1859 the first man crossed Niagara Falls on a tightrope.
-In 1960 a 7 year old boy became the only person to every accidentally fall over the Falls and survive.
What I remember most about Niagara Falls is the fury and force of the beautiful, blue water especially when you get up close and the rainbow that can be seen from the Canadian side. Mother Nature is amazing! If you ever visit, I highly suggest taking the Journey Behind the Falls tour which allows you to walk through a partially open tunnel behind the Horseshoe Falls and the boat tour that takes you up close to each of the three waterfalls.
Niagara Falls should be experienced by everyone at least once in their lifetime!
I hope you enjoyed my article!
